Friday 31 August 2007 @ 10:36 pm

When id Software promised us that Enemy Territory: Quake Wars was going to be more than just guns, ammo and mayhem, they weren’t kidding. This exciting new FPS prospect is being touted as a thinking man’s shooter wherein brutal tactics must be devised to offset enemy defenses.

In this trailer, you’ll be walked through by the devs on some of the basic aspects of Strogg behavior. You’ll come to understand that Quake Wars is a game that’s won and lost depending on offensives and counters. With some strategy, troop coordination and a decent aim, plowing through alien hordes should be a snap.

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is set for release on the Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3 and the PC later this year. It’s one of the season’s most awaited projects and is sure to be a favorite in this region. We’ll update you for more news about this bombshell in progress.

EA Canada consults the best NBA Live players for feedback

Friday 31 August 2007 @ 10:36 pm

It takes a certain amount of class for a big development team to admit that they came up short for a game. In this trailer, EA Canada didn’t hold back anything and admitted that NBA Live 07 didn’t live up to expectations. The good thing about their acknowledgement is that they’ve set out on a motivated effort to make up for it by revolutionizing the franchise with EA Sports’ NBA Live 08.

To prove this, they even sat down with the best NBA Live players online and got their feedback on last year’s and this year’s offerings. You’ll see what happened to the chat in the video below.

As you will see, the new features and the older, but improved ones will be discussed. The graphics were also tackled and the commentary got some….well, comments. In any case, check this clip out and tell us what you think. NBA Live 08 is set for the Sony PlayStation 3, PSP, PS2, Microsoft Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, and decent Windows gaming PCs.

Recently manufactured Xbox 360 bricked after 20 minutes

Friday 31 August 2007 @ 10:23 pm

New Xbox bricked after 20 minutes of play - Image 1It was a bad day for Andru Edwards from PlayFeed. After getting a replacement for his bricked Xbox 360 console, his new one got the Red Rings of Doom after 20 minutes of play. He claims that the new console was manufactured on August 15 of this year, which suggests that the new line of consoles may still be having problems dealing with the red ring problem.

Edwards’ first Xbox 360 got the red rings and he received a brand new replacement about three weeks later. After playing the Fatal Inertia demo for 10 minutes, Edwards moved on to Stranglehold where the new 360 froze in the opening sequence. When he manually reset the console, the red rings appeared.

Edwards expressed his dissatisfaction with Microsoft’s service. He even cited an interview with Peter Moore who addressed the issue during E3. The question Moore was presented with was: ” […] Are you guaranteeing or insuring that the systems that are rolling off the assembly lines now and the systems that will be returned to consumers will be fixed properly this time?” Moore answered, saying:

Yeah. I mean, nothing is perfect, guys. […] I can’t guarantee everyone in the world that we go fix one thing and then something else [won’t] happen. No I’d be stupid to make that guarantee. But I feel very, very good about the quality of hardware now. You guys know this, every day in the factories where we are building these and where we are learning more about it. […] You’re constantly tweaking, moving parts around, you re renegotiating with suppliers because your goal is to continuously raise the quality of the box, and bring the price down.

Edwards also posted some pictures to back up his claim that the new console he received was indeed manufactured on August. Click on the image to enlarge.

Sega Rally Revo aims to ‘break ground’

Friday 31 August 2007 @ 9:28 pm

Sega Rally Revo is slated to come out in slightly more than a month from now, and the developers are on the last stages of development. This next-gen racer says it will literally break new ground in the genre and this video will tell you how. Check it out:

As you’ve heard, the geo-altering new engine will allow the unprecedented effect of tires etching the tracks into new shapes and forms as cars drive over it. The amount of ground shaken depends on the kind of motion taking place above it. This means that you’ll never drive on the exact same track twice and the feel will be significantly different each time.

European, Japanese and American cars will be up for the taking in this iteration of the Sega Rally series. Online play will also be available along with a slew of other options. Sega Rally Revo ships on October 9 for the Sony PlayStation 3, PSP, PC and Microsoft Xbox 360.

Stranglehold’s European release is further announced to be on September 14 for the Xbox 360, September 21 for the PC, and October for the PlayStation 3. Mafia 2 trailer video

Friday 31 August 2007 @ 5:21 pm

When Take-Two Interactive officially announced Mafia 2 a couple of days ago, they also dropped the line that a trailer would follow suit. In case you’ve been keeping watch of this topic, we’re happy to report that the video is now available for viewing.

This video trailer will be providing us with a glimpse of (hopefully) the game’s graphics, and introduces to who appears to be the game protagonist - “Vito.” Expect car chases, Tommy Guns, and some appropriate 50s-themed tracks for the trailer you’re about to pick.

There’s even room for some dark comedy at the end of the whole segment. Happy viewing - drop back in case we can confirm for which system Mafia 2 will be heading.

Timeshift demo gameplay video

Friday 31 August 2007 @ 5:06 pm

For those of us who have yet to download the demo of the time-warping FPS, Sierra Entertainment’s Timeshift (Xbox 360, PS3, PC) that recently became available in Xbox Live, here’s an opportunity to see what you’re missing: a very wicked-looking video of the game in action, peppered judiciously with sadistic utilization of your time-bending abilities.

In this gameplay video update, we see the player using his ability to control time the way it should be used (and neglected to be used in popular media such as movies and books). Namely, stopping time, and then shooting the everliving crap out of your enemies.

While it may be unsporting to walk up to an opponent, slow down time and then take their weapons away - tearing off their limbs in the process - it certainly works in your favor, and you survive in the bullet-riddled war zone for a few moments longer. All’s fair in love and war, eh?

For further details, you can check out our first impressions of the demo itself. Timeshift is a fresh take on the usual point-and-shoot action of FPS titles, and it certainly delivers. Enjoy the video!

BBFC responds to UK Conservative Party’s call against violent video games

Friday 31 August 2007 @ 4:55 pm

BBFC - Image 1The British Board of Film Classification has responded to UK Conservative Party leader David Cameron’s statements calling for a review of its regulatory framework.

Cameron revealed earlier this week a dossier called “It’s Time to Fight Back”. As we reported earlier, the dossier urged video game developers - as well as proponents of other forms of artistic expression like films and music - not to promote issues such as casual violence, gang culture and the degradation of women.

In response, BBFC spokesperson Sue Clark told MCV that the classification guidelines that the BBFC uses are “based on what the public deems acceptable.” She further added that they “feel confident that we have public consent on how we deal with issues such as gun and knife crime.”

The UK’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) also spoke in support of the BBFC. Here’s what one DCMS spokesman told MCV:

We have a strict enforcement code for people who supply ‘18′ or ‘15′ rated games to children. Adults can make their own decisions which games to play, as they can which films to watch.

planes and locations - Image 1

Here are five new screenshots from the upcoming flight combat simulation game Blazing Angels 2: Secret Missions. It’s being developed by Ubisoft Romania and will be released on platforms Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. This title had had many release dates in the past and the last we heard, it will finally be available this September.

Anyway, these screenshots show some of the locations each player will be visiting in Blazing Angels 2. In this title, players gets to fight alongside an elite Allied Squadron and the mission is to stop the Nazis from creating weapons of mass destruction. Plot sounds like the game was inspired by recent events it’s actually set during the WWII.

In terms of features, Blazing Angels 2 is host to many prototype planes that can be upgraded as the players progress in the game. Multiplayer component is also present, of course, with choices ranging from co-op, squad-based, free for all, and the new capture the flag mode.
